Greetings!I managed to install ubuntu (16.04) on my working PC, after couple hours of surfing the web my inteet coection lost. So i decided to do this

After these commands Gods of the inteet blessed me again(Got google working again), and i tried to coect to previous webpages > but failed, tried to open different ubuntu communities > failed,( only main (this one) worked well) almost 80% of the web pages won't open to me from THAT moment, and also can't install ANY program VIA terminal

I just switched from IPS237L-BN (1920×1080) to new Dell P2416D (2560x1440) monitors in a dual setup. And I have the following problem. I get a a message on my monitors stating:"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor. Please change your input timing to 2560×1440, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications." Effectively I don't see my boot/bios screen or any tty's. Once at the logon screen I have 2× highres screens ruing at 2560x1440 without a problem.What works:With a vga cable I see the boot screen and tty's.With DVI-D > HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWith HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWhat doesn't work:With DVI-D > HDMI cable coected I don't see the boot screen and tty'sWith HDMI cable coected I don't see the boot screen and tty'sBoth situations display the "input timing" message.Is there a solution for this situation? I installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 about a week ago on a partition from my Windows 10 OS. Since then, I have been able to successfully use Grub to choose either windows or Ubuntu to boot. Just now, however, I restarted and the Grub menu didn't appear. The bios menu also did not appear. It then booted straight into Ubuntu. This happened after I tried to hard restart with the power button and the prompt appeared suggesting that I save files first. My files were all saved, but I exited out and saved them all anyways, and then shut down just from the actual software option. Settings seem to have changed as well. For example, my desktop is now stuck at 1024x768, while before I was at 1920x1080. The only other option is 800x600. This was the case before I installed drivers for my graphics card. Also, when I signed into gmail, it recognized me as logging in on a new computer, even though I have logged in on this before. I've tried holding down shift on startup, and it still just boots straight to Ubu

I am an English speaker who often writes in Japanese to friends, etc. I am finding that my Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS install has a weird bug that's frustrating the hell out of me: it doesn't seem to remember my switching the input method from the default, "none," to fcixt or ibus. Nearly all the instructions I can find online say "Go to Preferences, Language Support, and choose either ibus or fcixt, logout, then log back in."But when I do that, the same "none" is back, always preselected. Any settings I change require relogging in...which means they vanish.I can see the nice input window sitting there. But it just doesn't DO anything...I hit "cntl-space" and it appears or disappears, but never allows me the option to write anything but English/romaji.Anyone know what's causing this?Thank you!

I have a 64BIT OpenSuSE server I'm looking to migrate over to Ubuntu.Dell 7500 Workstation with Intel E5 Xeon processor64GB of RAM and 20TB of dataMySQL database to migrate over with it.First off before going any further, I noticed the only architecture for 64bit is AMD 64, so does this mean having a Dell server based on Intel, I'm dead in the water as is? If so I can just go towards SME Server, but I would rather try Ubuntu as it's a bit unique on it's own/to try something different.Or is there something unique about the 32bit version that will allow it to use the full 64GB of RAM? This is a domain controller that will also virtualize multiple other servers and other functions. Basically a server with multiple Virtual servers that will at least host 15 VMs total using VirtualBox. So no room for games on it.

Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage.The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable.It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Discoecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Ruing dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. AMD64 specific boot options
IOMMU (input/output memory management unit)
General iommu options:
off Don't initialize and use any kind of IOMMU.
noforce Don't force hardware IOMMU usage when it is not needed. (default).
force Force the use of the hardware IOMMU even when it is not actually needed (e.g. because < 3 GB memory).
soft Use software bounce buffering (SWIOTLB) (default for Intel machines). This can be used to prevent the usage of an available hardware IOMMU.

I think I know where I went wrong, I just can't find anything on how to fix it. I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 install which have incompatible formats if I recall correctly. When I boot my computer it hangs on the BIOS for much longer than normal, with my caps lock and num lock keys constantly blinking. Once it does that for a minute or so, it goes to a black screen and flashes a message (it includes the words environment batch (or block)). It goes away so quickly I can't tell what it says.I tried booting from my Ubuntu disk but it gives this message:Loading boot logo...error setting up gfxbootWhen I try booting from a Windows 7 install USB it says:error: no such device: then a string of letters and numbersgrub rescue>with a prompt.I feel so dumb right now and just want to save this computer, I just bought it from Craig's List and was trying to install my favorite OS. I'm often ruing a simultaneous VNC window alongside a regular native X session. From time to time, and with no rhyme or reason that I can detect, my X window session hangs, producing a black screen. The keyboard isn't frozen (I can see the caps-lock go on), but hitting Alt-F4 or Cntl-Alt-F4 doesn't bring me to a terminal.I'm talking about weeks or months...it's not common!The odd thing is that my VNC session still is fine, and I can access everything fine. But to get back to a working X session, I've had to always close everything out and hard power down the computer. Then reboot.Is there a way to just type something via the command line that will keep the VNC session going and just refresh the X window?Thank you!!!(I'm on Lubuntu 14.04, LTS)

Somehow -- I think as an artifact or by-product of my having installed the GNU IceCat web browser -- whenever I drop into the virtual shell, using the Ctrl-Alt-F1 command, what I see displayed at the top of the black screen is:Trisquel GNU/Linux 6.0.1 jbox tty1However, I am not ruing or using Trisquel in any way as far as I'm aware of, and I've deleted everything I could find with that name. What it should say is:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS jbox tty1(or, maybe, "Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS jbox tty1").Would anyone know:(a) How it got there, but more importantly,(b) How I should I get rid of it and replace it with the correct name of the OS I'm actually ruing?I'd also like to just make sure there's nothing else going on with Trisquel (& that there are no other consequences, functions or appearances of it) in my system.(I think I've deleted everything, or almost everything, having to do with it.) So the xorg issue with the pointer disappearing has been solved and that is absolutely great!
However, I still seem to have a problem with light locker. After suspend, locking the screen or logging out, I see my wallpaper for a second or so, then there is a glitch and tus to the default light blue background. When I change the user to Guest and then back to my account, my wallpaper appears and stays for good.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this and/or how to fix it?

Hi!I am completely new to ubuntu and so far my friends help me to get it installed and helped me to get started with it.My laptop runs both windows 10 and ubuntu 16.04 and my wifi works fine with I use windows, yet I can't even access wifi networks with ubuntu (I have added images to make illustrate what I mean).Yesterday, I had access to wifi with ubuntu, but it didn't work when when I suspended my session and logged in again. So I ask my friend to help me fix this problem, but now I the situation is even worse (as I described in the last sentence).I have a RTL8723BE wireless network adapter.As i have mentioned I am completely lost and I have absolutely no idea what to do since I am on my own. Under Ubuntu 14.04 this email app (ver 3.10.4) will not configure its IMAP settings correctly.When setting up IMAP - via Edit/Preferences/Mail Accounts/"accountname settings"/Receiving Mail/Configuration/... When setting the server port value. My ISP requirements are for port 993. This is selectable. BUT it will not save that value.Attempts to check/refresh the server generate error message: "TCP coection reset by peer". Coection fails - no mail headers are transferred.Upon retuing to this dialogue box the (default) port value remains at 143. Multiple attempts made - not successful at getting the 993 value to stick.Attempted to include ":993" at the end of the "serveame" but this compounds the error by referencing the server as "serveame:993:993".Until I can resolve this conce my transition to Evolution is stuck.[ Does that make me a Darwinist "transition to Evolution".
